Steven and I went in for the 16-week appointment, and were hoping and praying to find out the gender, but apparently they weren't going to do an ultrasound.
The doctor came in and checked the heart-rate, which was in the low 150's, which the doctor said is great. So we got the all-clear to go home.
BUT, I couldn't leave without at least trying to get an ultrasound. :)
I asked if it would be possible, because my husband didn't make it for the 12-week appointment, and they were so nice to squeeze us in.
We got back there and it was really hard to tell what the baby was doing, but the nurse could tell. She said the baby was laying facing towards my back, but head up. The head was laying on the arms, kind of like the baby was propped up on the back of the uterus. The legs were also crossed Indian-style, so the feet were in the way! So not only was the baby laying in the weirdest position, but we couldn't see what we needed!
So, I started rolling around and shaking, trying to make the baby move those little feet. :)
She got another look from the bottom and then said, "Oh I see boy parts." Steven immediately threw his arms in the air, like it was a goal in soccer.
It is so amazing to know we are having a boy! :)

Gender tests - boy or girl?
OK, so my friend Heather tried the good ol' baby gender predictions when she was pregnant with her first, and it was fun to see if any were actually right. (Let's admit it, there's a 50/50 shot.)
So here is goes...
1. According to the Chinese Gender Predictor, based on Lunar age of mom at time of conception and date of conception, we're having a girl.
2. Baby's heart rate has been more than 140, so that means girl. It's been in the 160's every time.
3. I crave salty foods, not sweets, so it's a boy.
4. According to the Mayans, since my age was an even number in an odd number year at time of conception, it's a boy. (Even age and even year mean a girl.)
5. Since I've had more breakouts, it's a girl.
6. My hair is fuller, shiner, and growing faster, so that's means it's a boy.
7. My feet are just as cold as they've always been, then it's a girl.
8. If the hubby had put on weight as well, then it it would indicate a girl, but I don't think Steven has changed weight at all, so boy.
9. I had morning sickness, so it's a girl.
10. Another craving one... I crave meat, not fruit, so it's a boy.
OK, so the tally is:
Boy - 5
Girl - 5
Hmmm what odds!?! ;)
Now you guess! We will hopefully find out February 7th, at our 16 week appointment. :) So, let's see who guesses right!

What to do, what to do?
I have a tiny gut that I jokingly say looks more like I've had too many beers. I been feeling these pulling sensations, which my fancy-baby-tracking-apps tell me is the uterus rising. Apparently there are tendons connected to the uterus and as it rises, they're being stretched. It's a weird feeling. Basically if I stand up too fast, cough, or sneeze then I really feel it. It's a strange one.
I want the typical pregnancy bump and feelings. I'm ready for a real 'belly' and not just a gut. :) I don't know if friends and Steven are just being nice, but they say the gut isn't obvious. So, right now I just feel fat.
I also don't know what to do. I want to be planning and prepping the nursery. My super controlling/planner self can't take it much longer. We are trying to get some things done around the house, that will be much harder with a newborn around. But, as soon as I know boy or girl, it will be planning time. :)
Of course I also need to focus on my last two semesters of Meteorology school. I'm so excited to get my degree, and I know it will mean big things for my future. Hopefully sooner, rather than later. It's a 3-year online program, but I'm doing it in 2 years. BUT, that means I'm a full-time student, full-time job, and preparing for our first baby.
I know it will all be worth it though. I'll have the baby, then a few weeks later take my final-comprehensive test, and then no more school. That also means within a month I'll add two titles, Mommy and Meteorologist. What more could a girl ask for!?!

Woah baby!
The 12/13 week appointment was something I was greatly looking forward to, and slightly feared. Too many loved ones had gone through miscarriages, so I feared the worst. But, I went into that doctor's office and got to see a healthy and active baby!
Steven worked that morning, and tried to get out of there in time, but no luck. So, when I went back for the ultrasound, I told the Nurse it didn't look like he would get there in time, so she popped in a DVD. The greatest gift she could have given us, because he was not happy to have missed the appointment.
As soon as she got the wand over the little one, about the size of a peach (3 inches), I got to see a big stretch. There were several kicks, and rolling over, and if the activity at 12-weeks is any indication, this baby really is going to be a soccer player! The baby even sucked it's little-bitty thumb. :)
And like I mentioned, we got a DVD so as soon as I got home Steven got to see it all too. :)
So with my paranoia gone, I felt comfortable announcing to the world... which now-a-days means posting it on Facebook.
Our next appointment is February 7th and I'm hoping we'll get to find out if it's a boy or a girl!

"The Thinker"
Already sucking the thumb- just like Aunt Brittany used to! :)
And kick up...
Now kick out...

Start spreading the news...
I was actually very nervous to tell anyone. I guess it was the months of build up of trying to get pregnant, or maybe because it feels surreal. (I'm feeling all the signs of pregnancy just no bump to show for it YET.)
We decided to tell our parents for Thanksgiving. I mean what could we be more thankful for than our own little blessing!?! It was hard to wait that whole week and a half to tell them, but we didn't want them to suspect something by trying to get together last minute. I definitely didn't want to tell any loved one over the phone.
Grandparents to be, my parents:
I called my parents and sister to see if we could all go out to eat together just before Thanksgiving, since we were all going different directions on the actual holiday. Brittany, my sister, already knew I was pregnant. In a moment of panic/excitement I called her. *Sorry Boo, that you didn't get a special announcement. :)
Luckily, as usual, my parents were running a few minutes late. This meant we could get to the table with a present without them seeing it. We all chatted for a bit, and then after we ordered there was a lull in the conversation, and I grabbed a gift bag. We told my parents they do so much for us, and we wanted to give them something, but wanted to reiterate that it was something small. Of course Steven and I can't help but smile at each other because we're really thinking about the size of the baby, which was about an apple seed at the time.
About to have a third grandchild, Steven's parents:
We prayed we were going to see Steven's parents on Thanksgiving. Don, Steven's dad, had back surgery the week before but they were still considering traveling to Hendersonville to spend the holiday with Roseanne's, Steven's mom, sister and family. I had to work that day, so we couldn't go. Luckily they decided to stay, and it was time to visit the other Spains.
Our nephews were running around being wild and adorable, and we were trying to be helpful with the food prep. There finally came a time when everyone was in the same room, and Steven grabbed a gift bag for his parents. He told them we got them something special, since they're always doing so much for us. Again we wink and laugh at each other, and tell them it's something small.
The announcement and reactions:
They each reached into the bag and pulled out a picture frame, with a special note inside.
My mom immediately teared up, just as I expected. My dad just smiled for a minute, and then asked, "Will you still be able to go on a cruise in March?" Haha, yes dad I will. ;)
Roseanne immediately had a huge smile on her face. Don was squinting for a second, clearly just trying to focus on the wording itself, and then his jaw suddenly dropped.
It's a happy and exciting time for everyone. Now at 7 weeks, I'm just looking forward to my first doctor's appointment. :)

First peak at baby!
We had our first doctor's visit and we were so nervous. We really didn't know what to expect, and I think we needed to see the baby, because the little pregnancy symptoms weren't enough. I wanted to see for myself, since there is no bump yet! :)
We were at Fort Sanders Regional bright and early Wednesday, the 7th. Steven seemed uncomfortable in an OBGYN office, but I loved that he could be there. They took us straight back for the ultrasound. A few seconds later there was our little jelly bean. The head towards the bottom of the uterus, and measured right at 8 weeks. (Which is how far along we estimated.) We got to hear the heartbeat, which I think made both of our hearts skip a beat. It was amazing! BTW, I love every single person who works for that group! Every nurse, doctor, and even the billing office is full of the nicest people, which is great when you're not quite sure what all is going on. :)
The due date is set for July 20th, 2012.
As far as those pregnancy symptoms go, I haven't had it that bad. I get queasy/nauseous randomly, but I'm not usually overwhelmed by it. I found if I eat small meals every couple of hours my body is much happier. I'm also tired all the time! I could seriously sleep 10 hours a night and take a few naps a day. Steven likes to make fun of me for how much I sleep on my days off, but hey I should get all the sleep while I can right! :)

It's positive!
Steven and I have been trying to get pregnant for a little over 10 months. I've tried not to over think it, and constantly tell myself it will happen when God wants it to. BUT, it's pretty obvious I'm a little of a control freak. Well, God decided it was time for us to have a baby.
Before the pregnancy test....
One of the first indications I had that my body was changing was when we went for sushi. We are obsessed with the "Pizza" roll at Nama, and had to run out for lunch. As usual, we each knew 1 roll wouldn't cut it, so we each got two. When the first one came out, my mouth was watering. It LOOKED so amazing! One bite in, and something wasn't right. It tasted the same, but my stomach didn't seem to share the same passion for the Asian cuisine. I took a few more bites, and quickly had to put down my chopsticks. I could not eat the sushi!
To avoid getting my own hopes up, I wrote it off to just being stressed. But, I couldn't help but think this might be it.
A few days later it was time for my period to start. Nothing.
At this point, I'm really trying to not get ahead of myself. Although, about every 6 hours I was informing Steven that I hadn't started. Of course, he pointed out that he didn't need play-by-play. :)
Three Days Late....
Steven was at work that Friday evening. Brittany and I had plans to do some Christmas shopping. Everything baby related that I saw I wanted to buy. Now, that's nothing new for me. But, it did remind me that I needed to take the all important test.
I got home and couldn't take it anymore. Within 2 minutes, there it was. Two crisp lines screaming your pregnant!
Of course, I was afraid to believe. So, test number two. Yet again, positive. I never thought two little lines could make a girl so happy!!!!
I think I went into some weird time loop, because I was circling, pacing, talking to myself, starting to cry, laughing, and trying to sit down all at once. Here I was home alone, and the dogs are circling me because I'm acting like a crazy person!
Let the crazy out....
I've picked up a few baby items over the past year, as Steven and I have planned to start a family. One in particular is a soccer ball pattern bib, with the words "Lil' Spain." Steven being the huge soccer fan that he is, I saved that as the perfect way to tell him. An adorable little soccer ball rattle would make the perfect addition, so I threw them in an inconspicuous plastic bag.
When Steven got home, I mentioned that I got him something while Brittany and I were out shopping. (I'm notorious for giving gifts long before the actual holiday the present was intended for.) Steven smiled, and opened it up. He seemed confused by the rattle, so pushed the bag to him again and said there's more. He pulled out the bib and knew.
He just smiled and said, "You're pregnant." I've never seen him smile so big! (Of course, by this point in the night my face was hurting from smiling so much.)
"We did it!" That's all I could say.
